Verboom at Tiny Flower Boat

Last week we had the Helleborus cut flower on the FloraPodium in the spotlight. But the Helleborus as a plant should certainly not be missing in the Christmas and winter assortment. A number of beautiful Helleborus plants, the so-called 'Winter Angels' from nursery Verboom Winter Angels, have taken a tour on the Tiny Flower Boat on our Aalsmeer lakes.

Verboom grows the Skimmia and Helleborus with passion. These are the so-called 'Winter Angels' of the company. The Helleborus season of Verboom begins with the white flowers for Christmas and the colored varieties afterwards. Thanks to their own breeding, they have a wide range of beautiful and strong varieties, varying from white to light pink, to red and purple. In total there are more than 20 different varieties available. Verboom has been more visible in the market in recent years. In 2002 they started with the 'Verboom Beauty', this special variety has no leaves when it is sold, making the flowers stand out and drawing extra attention to it. In collaboration with a breeder and on their own initiative, they have started breeding, so that a nice assortment is now ready. Through the breeder they sell many varieties for which Verboom has the exclusive sales rights.

Verboom also has been growing cut Helleborus for a while, but has now stopped. Because of the short season the cut and pot plants are in each other's way. There were now two crops with the peak moment at the same time. Even though the cultivation was profitable, the cut Helleborus forced them to divide their attention and they lost focus on their core business: plant cultivation. Because of this they could no longer offer the quality they were used to. They have therefore chosen to stop the production of cut Helleborus.

At this moment the Hellebeborus Niger variety is being showcased on the Tiny Flower Boat. However, the cultivation of that particular plant, and therefore the supply, is now coming to an end. Next year november the production of this typical winter product will start again. At Verboom the season with the colored and double varieties Helleborus starts again. These varieties are also available in larger pot sizes.
