Organic flower bulbs

FloraPodium encountered Eric Nederstigt on Social Media. He works together with the company ‘Huiberts Biologische Bloembollen’, which means: Huiberts Organic Flower bulbs. ‘Huiberts Biologische Bloembollen’ grows completely organic and may therefore carry the Skal certification mark for organic. A good reason for the FloraPodium to get acquainted with this promising company.

Already upon arrival it became clear that this company is progressive in the field of nature and the environment. Next to the huge insect hotel at the front door, there was a certificate in the canteen for 'bird-friendly farmer of the year 2018'.

The cultivation of flower bulbs is in Eric's blood. He works on a small scale and has set up his own network. He grows 100% organic flower bulbs in pots and mainly supplies florists who, like Eric, want to distinguish themselves with the sale of organic products. His cultivation includes Muscari, Anemones, different species of Hyacinths, Daffodils and Ornitogalum. These species attract many bees, butterflies and other insects, which in turn attract more birds to the area. No pesticides, fertilizer or plastic are used. Even the pot is 100% biodegradable because it is made from coconut fiber. It is therefore possible for the consumer to plant the bulbs with pot and all in the garden, so that they flower again the following year.

As icing on the cake Eric makes his own labels of ecological paper and uses a wooden plug. He offers the customer the possibility to have a text or logo printed on the label. Eric finds his organic cultivation a huge challenge and does so with a lot of passion. He already clearly sees more insects and birds in the area since they started this special crop. His goal; organic products that are qualitatively just as heavy and good (if not better) than those that are not organically grown.
