The story of the daffodil will be lost!
FloraPodium makes a strong assumption: the story of the daffodil will be lost! By this, we don’t mean the Greek methodology, in which Narcissus (a Greek God) is in love with his self-image. This is where we know the term ‘narcissist’ of. We mean the story of the different types of Daffodils!
This week, we have selected 10 different varieties of daffodils on FloraPodium to promote the daffodil with its story. And to present the different categories where the daffodils are subdivided. We will mention the most important groups of cut daffodils in this article.
- Trumpet or long cup
The trumpet Narcissus owes its name to its large cup (the trumpet) which is always bright yellow. There’s one flower growing per stem. The flowers of this trumpet daffodil protrude clearly above the leaves, making them very suitable as a cut flower. Las Vegas and Dutch Master are the most famous species of the trumpet Narcissus.
- Large cup
Large cup daffodils have big flowers with prominent cups. However, the additional cups are never longer than the petals. Johan Strauss, Pink Charm and Wedding bell are good examples of large cupped daffodils.
- Double flowered
The double flowered daffodil exists in many colors. The flowers has many layers of petals in the middle in stead of a cup. Good examples are Dick Wilde and Tahiti.
- Tazetta
Martinette is in the spotlights of the FloraPodium this week and is especially characterized by its delicious fragrance! This daffodil belongs to the Tazetta group and characterizes itself with one stem with several small flowers.
- Double flowered Tazetta
A daffodil can also be categorized into two groups! Bridal Crown and Winston Churchill are two examples of this. These are double-flowered daffodils from the Tazetta group.
The other verieties are less known in the daffodil cultivation. But gives a view of the versatile assortment of de daffodil. We’re talking about;
- Triandrus is the brother of the Tazetta (multi-flowered daffodils)
- Cyclamine small-flowered miniature daffodils such as tête-a-Tête. We know that as a pot plant.
- Jonquilla
- Poeticus, fragrant white with a red cup. But blooms only very late in the season.
- Split corona, a non traditional daffodil. It’s almost never forced. Its cup is split into segments and pressed back against the petals. The shelf life isn’t as good as the other varieties.
- Small cupped
