We try to give you a small glimpse into the world of Wedding and Events flowers in different ways; for instance by highlighting a special product that we think is particularly suitable for events, but also by offering interesting facts and news, but most of all by including photos of flower arrangements and decorations for inspiration. Nature creates the most beautiful colors of its own! Yet sometimes we want something a little bit different! This is where the G. de Koning steps in. G. de Koning has been a specialist in coloring flowers and leaf products for over 30 years. Frank de Koning welcomed us and gave us a look behind the scenes of this fantastic company.
A huge amount of color welcomed us when we entered the building. Everything is possible! Every day the company buys fresh flowers at the auction and from growers, which are then colored. In this way they ensure that there is always sufficient stock, the products that are offered are therefore immediately available.
Frank first showed us the process in which the flowers are colored by absorption. The kegs are provided with a small layer of paint (water tolerant). Before the stems are placed in the dye bath, a large piece is cut off, so that the flowers can absorb the dye the best. It takes about seven to eight hours for the flowers to fully color.
In addition to absorption, dipping is also one of the coloring techniques used by the company. The word says it all, the flowers are dipped in a dye bath in the color of your choice. They then enter a drying tunnel on a rail. Here the flowers are blown dry, so that these products are also quickly available.
In addition to their own stock, it is of course also possible to have your own products colored. Green varieties, Christmas trees or any flower you like. Absorption, dipping, spraying or glittering; where the color possibilities of nature stop, the possibilities for G. de Koning start.
