    Marginpar

A UNIQUE PRODUCT OF NATURE, SIGNED BY OUR PEOPLE.

“We are convinced that breeder, grower and market must work together to be successful”, is one of the slogans the company Marginpar stands for. This, of course, fits in completely with the FloraPodium concept; collaborate with and connect all aspects of the sector. We contacted Helena van Achterberg, content marketer at Marginpar. She introduced us to the company and showed us a couple of beautiful varieties of summer flowers from their range.

Marginpar creates millions of special, unique flowers every year.

Every day 80,000 bouquets of Marginpar flowers are made. Flowers are emotion, flowers are life. We party, we mourn, we decorate, we show, we say 'sorry' and 'I love you'. At Marginpar they believe it is important to know the story behind the flowers: "We like to talk about nature, the products and our people." Marginpar flowers are grown with passion. Pure, authentic, stylish and surprising. By working closely with their partners, they can guarantee the high quality of our products.

More than 120 varieties of flowers are grown in Kenya and Ethiopia and with partners in Tanzania and Zimbabwe. With 17 flower farms at different heights, each variety can be grown in the perfect place. By growing the flowers so close to the equator, they can create a year-round supply of most varieties. But it's not all about flowers.

Sustainability is very important to Marginpar. They are a proud member of the Floriculture Sustainability Initiative (FSI2020). Together they aim to achieve a sustainable production of 90% for all plants and flowers. In addition, their people are number one. Their company culture is one of recognition, value and trust. This makes people happier and they see people grow within the company. With the help of their passionate employees, their flowers flourish perfectly.

    Clematis So Amazing

Clematis is the most exclusive product in the Marginpar range. Currently 12 varieties are grown here. Clematis is best known as a climbing plant in the garden. Curiosity and determination led to a development that changed everything with “Clematis Amazing®”. A series specially developed for the cut flower market. These airy romantic flowers, with sturdy flexible stems, are now loved by florists all over the world.

    It's an art!

Growing and developing a new Clematis variety is not easy. Only 0.01% of all seedlings make the final selection. The process takes more than ten years and before a new variety is introduced it must pass strict selection requirements. Winners have qualities such as an excellent vase life, strong stems and an exclusive appearance that has not been seen in the market before. Marginpar only wants the best, so their customers can distinguish themselves and surprise their own customers again and again with the Clematis Amazing® series.

    Talinum 'Long John'

Marginpar has won the Glass Tulip Award with Talinum 'Long John’. Every year, Royal FloraHolland presents this prestigious award to the most extraordinary novelty. Both the public jury and the professional jury fell for this new cut flower.

In the spring of 2020, Marginpar introduced the Talinum paniculatum 'Long John'. This cut flower is grown in Tanzania and bred by Ron de Jong, who also developed the Astrantia Star® series. The geographical location of the flower farm, close to the equator, ensures the perfect location for the Talinum to grow long stems all year round, filled with small seed boxes in warm orange and red shades. A special addition to any bouquet, but also stunning on its own.

    Craspedia

There are many Craspedia varieties out there, so which one should you choose? Marginpar has made its choice. They only grow the big and bright yellow Craspedia Paintball Pop™. The large head has a diameter of 4 cm with a stem length of 80cm. Wow! This variety has been awarded a Red Ribbon by the Society of American Florists in 2019 (SAF Outstanding Varieties).

    Astilbe

Did you know that Astilbe is a crop known to require winter cold to bloom? The flower fields under the warm African sun may not be the first locations you think of to grow Astilbe. And why try at all, when you already know you're 1-0 down? Well, quite simply, at Marginpar they have a lot of go-getters in the team. People with a passion for flowers, who are not easily swayed. After a lot of testing and with a little bit of luck and a lot of technical knowledge of the team and the breeders they have come a long way. A very long way. And so it may be that a crop that loves a bit of cold does wonderfully well in Kenya.

    Eryngium

The Eryngium Questar® series is grown in Kenya, Ethiopia and Zimbabwe. Each species, out of six, is placed in the best spot to flourish. One needs more height for the perfect colour, the other more heat for the longest stems. The Marginpar team keeps a close eye on each variety to seek out the perfect location. They do this not only for the Eryngium, but for all their varieties. All to ensure the best and most beautiful flowers.

    Astrantia

Astrantia is one of the first species Marginpar introduced to the market. Astrantia is also popularly called "Zeeland Buttont" in Dutch. Because of the resemblance to the ornament on the waistband of Zeeland costume. The flowers have a very fine structure. The shield-shaped flowers, because they are actually wreaths of tiny flowers, remain intact for a relatively long time so you can enjoy them for a long time.
