FloraPodium is not only looking for exclusive flowers; special plants also deserve a place in the spotlights of the FloraPodium. And for special plants we came to the right place at Richplant. We received a fun and educational tour from Patrick, who introduced us to the most beautiful plants.
A man with a mission
Owner Richard Scheffers is a true hobbyist, as Patrick says laughingly. Growing beautiful plants is his passion and no challenge is crazy enough. During our tour through the greenhouse, he was busy with a watering can and taking care of his 'children'. A grower with such a love for his cultivation and who takes care of his products with passion, could only produce beautiful, high-quality products.
Caladium Praetermissum “Hilo Beauty”
The Caladium Hilo Beauty was discovered three years ago and was a really nice addition to the Richplant range. This Caladium stood out because of the special color pattern of the leaf. The Hilo Beauty has a striking dark colored leaf, with beautiful dark veins, but with a light green pattern in the leaf. No leaf is the same! In the current trend, where special green plants are extremely popular, this variety should not be missing!
Care
The Caladium is a tropical plant. She likes to be in a bright spot, but not in full sunlight; there’s a real chance that the leaf will burn. A temperature of 17-22 degrees Celsius is the ideal temperature; the Caladium really hate the cold. Once they've taken a hit from the cold, they often don’t recover. They like a moist environment, it is important that they are watered regularly; do not let the root ball dry out! And try giving some extra plant food twice a month, except during the winter months. Once a month would be enough during these months!
Cultivation
Richplant specializes in the small-scale cultivation of multiple products. The grocery store between the supermarkets; particularly green and particularly blooming is their motto!
Delivering high-quality products is their aim above all else. And that starts with the Caladium when the tubers are planted. Where most growers plant one tuber per pot, Richplant already starts planting two Caladium tubers in a pot. In this way a nice compact, full plant grows. It depends on the amount of light and the heat how fast the plant grows. Initially, the plants are placed close together, with high humidity, which creates a good root base.
After that, the plants can be placed wider in a different climate, where the plant continues to grow slowly. The third phase is the 'sales stage’; here the plants are ready for sale.
