Borst Bloembollen has a wonderful company in Obdam. They produce many different types of tulips on more than 215 hectares.
The Tulips are grown in West Friesland, South & East Flevoland, North East Polder Flevoland, New Zealand and Chile.
Borst specializes in exclusive types and flexibility. About 210 different cultivars are grown per forcing season.
The forcing season is long due to the cultivation of bulbs in both the Netherlands and the Southern Hemisphere. The season therefore runs annually from the end of September to the beginning of May. Approximately 40 million tulip flowers are produced every year, an impressive number! The majority of the cultivars are exclusive, high-quality tulips. Borst breeds cultivars with good and strong characteristics. The assortment is very diverse, they have fringed (crispa), parakeet (parrot), crowns (crown) and double (peony) tulips.
Growing tulips and propagating tulip bulbs is in their blood. The company was founded around 1910 by Jaap Borst, who then only grew vegetables. From 1946 they focus specifically on tulips and they have grown into a very extensive and comprehensive tulip company. Propagating and introducing new exclusive tulips and cultivars is their specialty.
